White Yarn Spindles

Better choices start with the material.

From fibre selection and certified yarn options to responsible sourcing and longer-lasting product development, we continue to explore better ways to make knitwear.

What Is Sustainable Yarn?

Sustainable yarn refers to yarns made from fibers that are sourced and produced with careful consideration for environmental impact, social responsibility, and animal welfare. These yarns aim to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote ethical practices throughout their lifecycle-from raw material cultivation to manufacturing.

Natural Fibers

Natural fibers in sustainable yarns come from renewable plant or animal sources and are often produced using eco‑friendly methods. Common types include:

Organic Cotton: Grown without synthetic pesticides or chemicals, it reduces soil and water pollution. It is soft, breathable, and biodegradable—ideal for comfortable, eco‑conscious knitwear.

Wool: A renewable fiber from sheep, as fleece regrows naturally. Sustainable wool is sourced from farms that follow animal welfare and responsible land management practices.

Hemp and Other Plant Fibers: Hemp grows quickly with little water and no pesticides, making it highly sustainable. Other plant fibers like bamboo and flax also use fewer resources than conventional cotton and are biodegradable.

Overall, natural fibers are renewable, biodegradable, and typically require less energy and fewer chemicals, helping lower environmental impact.

Recycled Fibers

Recycled fibers are made by repurposing post-consumer or post-industrial textile waste and plastic materials, giving them a second life as yarn. Examples include:

Recycled Polyester: Made from recycled plastic bottles or textile scraps, recycled polyester reduces landfill waste and the demand for virgin petroleum-based fibers. Its production consumes less energy and water compared to traditional polyester.

Recycled Wool: Produced by collecting and processing wool garments or scraps, recycled wool saves water and energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and avoids additional animal farming impacts.

Using recycled fibers helps divert waste from landfills, decreases resource consumption, and lowers carbon emissions, supporting a circular economy in the textile industry.
